Pontiac is a marquee of automobile manufactured by General Motors, however, like many brands; Pontiac did not start out with General Motors.

Pontiac was first seen with the Pontiac Spring and Wagon Works. In 1908, The Pontiac Spring and Wagon Works merged with the Oakland Motor Company and created the name Oakland Motor Car Company. They joined forces in Pontiac, Michigan to build the Cartercar. In 1909, Oakland Motor Company was purchased by General Motors.

The very first Pontiac created by General Motors was a lower priced six cylinder, which was meant to compete against the cheaper four cylinder models. Within just a few months, the Pontiac outsold Oakland. Pontiac’s sales rose while Oakland’s declined. This made Pontiac the only “companion” marquee to survive is parent in 1932.

By 1933, Pontiac was selling the cheapest cars with a straight 8-cylinder engine. From this time until the beginning of the 1950’s, the Pontiac was a solid car not very powerful. Most of the cars produced during this time, were pretty much the same with only minor changes.

In 1955, new bodies and chassis were unveiled for Pontiac along with the introduction of the 173 horsepower overhead valve V8 engine. Sales were out of sight. With this new innovative V8 engine, six cylinder engines were discontinued.

Again in 1958, new chassis, bodies, and interior design was changed. Some of the unique styling seen in this year was the quad headlamps, longer and lower bodies, concave rear fender panels, and honeycombed grilles.

Reworking of the Pontiac was seen once again in 1961. The main difference was the new chassis that reduced the weight and they had smaller body styles. The all-new Tempest was the rave. The Tempest pushed the Pontiac into third place for the most popular cars.

1982 saw a major redesign with the Firebird. The wedge shape of the Firebird was the first main redesign seen in the pony car of the 1970’s. Of course, the public went wild with the new style. Sunbird was the next to awe consumers and then in 1984 the Fiero was at the top of the list.

Buick

Buick is still in the same position in the General Motors lineup as it was back in 1930. It is considered to be a car for the prestigious buyer that cannot afford the expense of the Cadillac. Buick was also part of the muscle car era too.

Styles of the Buick have changed over the years, however, some of the most popular Buicks that you might recognize include Buick Century sold from 1936 to 1942, 1954 to 1958 and 1973 until 2005; the Buick Electra sold from 1959 until 1990; Buick Invicta sold from 1959 until 1964; and the Buick Lacrosse sold from 2005 to the present. Some of the popular concept vehicles with the Buick label include the 1938 Buick Y-Job, the 1951 Buick LeSabre, the Buick Wildcat I, II, and III in 1953, 1954, and 1955, the Buick Bengal in 2001 and the Buick Riviera in 2007.

Buick is an automobile manufacturing company, which at its start was known as the Buick Motor Company. David Dunbar Buick created this company with incorporation on May 19, 1903. Buick was the inventor of the overhead valve engine, which is the main reason for success of the Buick Company. However, Buick struggled his first year in business and by 1904 the company was taken over by James Whiting. Whiting decided to bring in William C. Durant to manage his new company. Buick sold his stock in Buick for a minor amount of money.

William Durant was great at managing the company and before long Buick was the largest car manufacturing company in the United States. With the great success of Buick, Durant began corporate acquisitions under the new mega-corporation name of General Motors.

In the beginning, all of the manufacturers under the General Motors label were in competition with one another. Durant did not want the cars to be competition he had the desire to have each car to target one class of buyer. Buick was at the top with Cadillac the only car above Buick when it came to the prestigious buyer.

Finally in 1929, The Buick Motor Division of General Motors launched the Marqueete sister brand. This car was the dream to bridge the gap between Buick and Oldsmobile. The Marquette was discontinued in only one short year in 1930.

Ford Muscle Cars For Sale

Ford Motor Company is an American corporation along with being the world’s third largest automobile manufacturer.

In 1903, twelve investors joined with Henry Ford and $28,000 in cash to found the Ford Motor Company. At this time, Henry Ford was 40 years old. Still to this date, the Ford Motor Company has survived over 100 years of being under family control.

The first automobile created in 1903 was the infamous Model A. In the early days of the company, they were located in a building they had rented on Mack Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. The production was only a few cars a day being manufactured with three or four men creating each car by components that were made to order from various companies. The Model T was the first car created by the company owned factory in 1909. During 1909, there were 18,000 Model T manufactured.

Ford Motor Company was growing rapidly and by 1911 moved to a larger plant in Highland Park. Here there were 70,000 Model T’s created in that first year.

1913 brought the innovative invention of the moving assembly line. With this invention, a chassis could be built in 2 hours and 40 minutes opposed to 12 ½ hours prior to the assembly line and the ability to mass produce. Annual output of cars created increased to 250,000 and by 1920 this figures was over one million.

The problem with mass production was it was very hard on the workers. Many workers would not stay with their employment, thus many delays were happening along with lost money used to train new employees.

However, Ford changed all of that. He raised the pay of employees to $5 per day, which was double the pay at that time for a day’s work. He also implemented the 8 hour day and a 5 day work week. This was the beginning of minimum wage and the 40 hour work week prior to the United States Government enacting this resolution.

By 1919, the Ford Motor Company was creating half the cars in the United States. The Ford oval trademark we all recognize was introduced in 1907. The oval you see today, however, was introduced on June 17, 2003 as the Ford Motor Company celebrated their 100th anniversary.
