Lamborghini is an Italian sports car manufacturer. The company is located in Sant’Agata Bolognese close to Bologna, Italy.

As the story goes, Ferruccio Lamborghini had a Ferrari. He was having problems with the clutch in his Ferrari 250 GT. he went to Enzo Ferrari and explained his problem. Enzo, which was not too fond of his customers in the first place, believing they only purchased Ferrari’s for the prestige and not the performance, was not too happy with the meeting. He told Ferruccio to leave and drive tractors as he could not drive cars. Lamborghini left the meeting with the intentions of fixing the clutch and headed off to his factory. He dismantled the Ferrari and learned the clutch was manufactured by the same company that created the clutch for his tractor. He searched around the warehouse and found a part he thought would fix his problem with the clutch and of course it worked and he solved the problem.

Ferruccio from that point decided to create his own car with a V12 engine. He contacted Giotto Bizzarrini who had at one time worked on a Ferrari V12. The new engine they created had four cams, a short stroke, and big bore valves per cylinder, thus creating a 350 horsepower. The engine was mounted in a design by Franco Scaglione.

The prototype Lamborghini 350GTV made its first public showing in 1963 at the Turin Auto Show. In 1964, the production model began to be sold with around 130 models. Ferruccio Lamborghini born under the sign of Taurus decided to use a bull as his badge for his new automobile.

The various models of Lamborghini from its birth include:
1963 – 350GTV
1964 through 1968 – 350GT
1966 through 1968 – 400GT 2+2
1966 through 1974 – Miura
1968 through 1978 – Espada
1968 through 1970 – Islero
1970 through 1978 – Jarama

All of the above had the Lamborghini V12 engine. The Urraco was produced from 1970 through 1979 with a Lamborghini V8 engine. The Countach produced from 1974 until 1990 had a Lamborghini V12 engine. The Silhouette produced from 1976 until 1977 had a Lamborghini V8 engine. The Jalpa produced from 1982 until 1990 had a Lamborghini V8 engine. The LM002 produced from 1986 until 1992 had a Lamborghini V12 engine The Diablo manufactured from 1990 until 2001 had a Lamborghini V12 engine.

Today, you can purchase the Murcielago, which began production in 2001 with a Lamborghini V12 engine, and the Gallardo, which was created in 2003 with a Lamborghini V10 engine.

Fiat is an Italian automobile manufacturer along with being an engine manufacturer, and a financial and industrial group.

Fiat was founded on July 11, 1899 by a group of investors; one in particular was Giovanni Agnelli. By 1902, Agnelli was the managing director of the company.

The first factory was opened in 1900 in Corso Dante. At that time, they employed 150 workers and produced 24 cars. One of the cars manufactured that year was the 3/12 HP without a reverse gear.

The first time fiat fans saw the fiat logo, which was oval on a blue background was in 1904 and designed by Biscaretti.

During the first Car Tour of Italy there were nine Fiat cars seen cross the finish line, however, the first real competition won the Sassi-Superga uphill race in 1902.The car was driven by Vincenzo Lancia.

In 1916, a new factory was beginning under the leader of Giacomo Matte Trucco. This factory was the largest in Europe and occupied five floors. It was not completed until 1922.

Like other European car manufactures during the war, production was limited to supplying the army. Like others in the industry after the war, getting back into production was tough. However, by as early as 1923, Fiat was back on track. Fiat gave us the 509, which was the first car with four seats during this time period.

In 1934 and 1936, two cars came off the assembly line that was sure to be big hits of the general public. These were the Balilla and the Topolino. The Balilla was known for its low fuel consumption while the Topolino was the smallest utilitarian car in the world. The Topolino was manufactured until 1955.

Another set back with another war, World War II, brought production down quite a bit. After the war in 1948, reconstruction of the plants was at the top of the list since many were destroyed by bombs. Profits did begin to show in 1948 and the number of employees began to increase.

Today, Fiat is the largest automobile manufacturer in Italy, with a range of cars including the Fiat Panda, Punto, Stilo, Idea, Croma, Ulysse, and Doblò.

The Count and Countess were parents of the Francesco Baracca who was at Italian pilot that died on Mount Montello during the war. After his death, the Count and Countess gave Ferrari their son’s squadron badge the famous prancing horse on a yellow shield.

Alfa Romeo is an Italian automobile manufacture, which was founded as Societa Anonima Italiana Darracq in 1906 by Cavaliere Ugo Stella along with a French automobile firm of Alexandre Darracq.

The first car was produced in Naples, however, the partnership between Cavaliere and Alexandre dissolved, and other Italian co-investors were found. With new investors, the factory was moved to Portello a Milan suburb. At this time the company was renamed A.L.F.A., which stood for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili.

The first car manufactured under the name A.L.F.A. was in 1910 by the name of “1910 24 HP” which was designed by Giuseppe Merosi. Later on Merosi would design even more ALFA cars that would have powerful engines such as the 40-60 HP.

ALFA did not only manufacture automobiles but ventured into motor racing. In the 1911 Targa Florio the drivers included Franchini and Ronzoni which drove two 24 HP models.

World War I stopped ALFA from producing automobiles as it did many other manufactures. However, after only three years ALFA was back in production.

In 1916, ALFA was transformed into a factory to create military hardware for the Italian and Allied war efforts under the direction of Nicola Romeo. After the war, Romeo took over the complete control of the company and automobile production began again in 1919.

The company name was changed in 1920 to Alfa Romeo, which has stayed with the company until today. The first car of the assembly line under the new company name was the Torpedo 20-30 HP.

During the 1960’s Alfa Romeo designed small cars for the Italian police, which included the famous “Guilia Super” or the 2600 Sprint GT. Alfa Romeo, was purchased by Fiat in 1986.

Some of the most popular current automobiles with the Alfa Romeo Badge include Alfa Romeo 147, Alfa Romeo 159, Alfa Romeo 166, Alfa Romeo GT, Alfa Romeo Brera, Alfa Romeo Spider, and the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.

We all have seen these unique cars in such movies as “The Graduate” with Dustin Hoffman driving the “Alfa Romeo Spider”, in the James Bond movie Octopussy with the GTV6 driven of course by Bond, and in the television crime series, Ein Fall fur Zwei with the leading actor Claus Theo Gartner driving an Alfa Romeo.
