Triumph Motor Company began in 1897 as the Triumph Cycle Company by Siegfried Bettmann. In 1902, it began creating motorcycles along with their original bicycles. Most of what they manufactured at this time was from used parts; however, by 1907 they had moved their plants and began creating their own parts. During World War I, they received several orders for their 550 cc Model H from the British Army. by 1918, they were the largest motorcycle maker in Britain.
In 1919, Claude Holbrook joined as general manager and by 1921 suggested that Bettmann purchased the assets of Dawson Car Company. After this purchase was made, production began on the 1.4-liter model by the name of Triumph 10/20. The design was the creation of Lea-Francis who received a royalty of every car sold. In 1927, the Triumph Super 7 was unveiled and was sold until 1934.
1930 brought the new name of Triumph Motor Company. At this time, Triumph Motor Company was using used engines with designs from Coventry Climax. In 1937, they began to create their own designs by Donald Healey who was assigned the position of experimental manager in 1934.
In 1936, financial troubles were seen which caused the sale of the bicycle and motorcycle business. Healey purchased an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 and created a new car with an Alfa inspired straight 8 engine which was named Triumph Dolomite.
In July 1939, the company went into receivership and everything was offered for sale. T.W. Ward purchased the company and gave Healey the position of general manager. However, World War II stopped all production of cars as it did for many European car manufacturers. The factory was totally destroyed by bombs in 1940.
After the war, Triumph Motor Company along with the brand name was purchased by Standard Motor Company in 1944. A subsidiary was created by the name of Triumph Motor Company. The new models of Triumph had no design similar to the pre-war era. As early as 1946, the new model seen was the Triumph 1800 Roadster. Steel was in short supply during this time and aluminum was used for the body.
In the 1950’s, the Triumph name began to be used on sports cars and saloons. In 1953, the Triumph TR2 was unveiled and was manufactured until 1981.

Rolls-Royce luxury cars for sale. Used Rolls-Royce cars available for sale from individuals and dealers from around the country.
Clicking the links below will open a detailed description of the Rolls-Royce in a new window on eBay.
Rolls-Royce was on the idea and innovative creation of Frederick Henry Royce, which began an electrical and mechanical business in 1884. He designed and created his first “Royce” in his Manchester factory in 1904. On May 4, 1884, Royce met with Charles Stewart Rolls at the Midland Hotel in Manchester and came to an agreement. Royce would create the cars and they would sold exclusively by Rolls. In the contract, a clause was added that stipulated the cars would go under the name “Rolls-Royce.” On March 15, 1906, the Rolls-Royce Company was founded. In 1908, the company was moved to Derby.
From 1906 through 1925, the most popular car and the one that helped to create Rolls-Royce’s reputation was the Silver Ghost. There were 6,173 Silver Ghost’s manufactured with a 6 cylinder engine. In 1921, Rolls-Royce opened another factory in Springfield, Massachusetts, United States. Here there were 1,701 Springfield Ghosts manufactured. This factory was closed in 1931.
In 1931, Rolls-Royce purchased Bentley who could not survive financial during the Great Depression. From this time until 2002, many people could not tell a Bentley from a Rolls-Royce except for the radiator grille and a few other minor details.
In 1946, the production of cars was moved to Crewe and then in 1959 to Mulliner Park Ward in London.
In 1973, Rolls-Royce was demerged with the outcome being Rolls-Royce Limited, which would manufacture jet engines, and Rolls-Royce Motors for automobiles.
In 1980, Vickers purchased Rolls-Royce Motors. In 1998, Vickers decided to sell; the two top bidders were BMW and Volkswagen. In a strange split, Volkswagen received the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, the shape of the radiator grille, but not the rights to the name Rolls-Royce that BMW received but not the grille and mascot.
Finally, BMW and Volkswagen came up with an agreement. BMW would supply engines for the cars and would allow Volkswagen to use the name until January 1, 2003. After this date, BMW would use the name Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen’s Rolls-Royce/Bentley division would use the name Bentley.
The cars produced under the Rolls-Royce name include 10hp, 15 hp, 20 hp, 30 hp, V-8, 40/50 Silver Ghost, 40/50 Phantom, Phantom II, Phantom III, Wraith, Silver Wraith, Silver Dawn, Phantom IV, Silver Cloud, Phantom V, Phantom VI, and the Silver Shadow.

Jaguar cars for sale. Jaguar cars available for sale from individuals and dealers from around the country.
Clicking the links below will open a detailed description of the Jaguar in a new window on eBay.
Jaguar also known as Jaguar Cars Limited is a car manufacturer that has its roots in Browns Lane, Coventry, England.
In its early days, Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922. William Lyons and William Walmsley created the first 2.5 litre saloon in 1935 bearing the name SS Jaguar. At this time, the Jaguar began to be the name for the company as well.
The company was not very popular until the 1950’s when they began creating unique, elegant, sport cars and saloons. In 1960, Jaguar purchased the Daimler car from Birmingham Small Arms Company. From that time, Daimler was put on some of the most prestigious luxurious saloons created by Jaguar.
In 1966, Jaguar merged with the Austin-Morris combine, the British Motor Corporation, and the British Motor Holdings. In 1968, they merged once again with Leyland and Rover and thus became known as the British Leyland Motor Corporation. In 1975, after some financial problems and the publication of the Ryder Report the company became known as the BL Ltd.
In 1984, Jaguar was separated from the rest of the company at least on the stock market.
In September 1989, the Ford Motor Company made an offer to purchase Jaguar. This offer was accepted in January 1990 and Jaguar was then removed from the London Stock Exchange on February 28, 1990. 1999 Jaguar became an important part of the Ford Motor Company’s new Premier Automotive Group with other automobiles such as the Volvo Cars and Aston Martin. In 2000, the Land Rover was added to the group and Aston Martin was recently sold.
Even though Ford purchased Jaguar in 1989, they have yet to see any profit. Many believe the reason that no profit is being seen is that during the 1970’s and 1980’s the Jaguar received a bad reputation of being unreliable. However, this fact is no longer true, as many improvements have been made to the Jaguars.
,br> Current Jaguars for 2007 include the XJ, which is a full size luxury sedan, the S-Type, which is a luxury sport sedan, the X-Type, which is a luxury mid-size sedan and wagon, and the XK, which is a sports car, coupe, convertible.

Bentley also known as Bentley Motors Limited is an English automobile manufacturer of luxury cars and Grand Tourers. The company was founded by Walter Owen Bentley in England on January 18, 1919. Bentley’s design was a high tech four-cylinder engine with a sturdy chassis known as the Bentley 3 Litre. This was the first care to use four valves per cylinder and dual spark plugs. He had several successes on the racing field; however, it was not enough to keep the car factory going. He had to sell a majority share in order to raise enough cash to keep his company afloat. He also designed the six cylinder 6 ½ Litre even though his control over the company was slipping away.
The early Bentleys include the 3 L from 1921 to 1929, the 6 ½ L from 1926 to 1930, the Speed Six from 1928 until 1930, the 4 ½ L from 1926 to 1930, the Blower from 1928 until 1930, the 8 L in 1930 and 1931 and the 4 L in 1931.
The Wall Street crash affected Bentley, as these racing cars were not in demand during the Great Depression.
Because of this, Bentley along with his partner Barnato sold the company to an anonymous holding company, British Central Equitable Trust in 1931. This was in fact Rolls Royce; however, Rolls closed the racing department.
Bentley left Rolls Royce and moved the racing department to Lagonda. Bentley went into racing in which his Lagonda MG45 Rapide won the Le Mans in 1935. Under the Rolls Royce brand Bentley models such as the Mark V, Corniche, Mark VI, Continental, Camargue, Mulsanne, Brooklands, Turbo S, Turbo R, and Azure were manufactured.
Rolls Royce along with Bentley Motors was purchased by Volkswagen in 1998. BMW and Volkswagen agreed that Volkswagen would create both the Bentley and Rolls Royce cars until the end of 2002.
Queen Elizabeth II was presented with a Bentley in 2002 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee.
In 2005, Bentley sales were very good with 8,627 sold throughout the world. In the Unites States alone 3,654 were sold. Clicking the links below will open a detailed description of the Aston Martin in a new window on eBay.
Aston Martin Lagonda Limited is a British manufacturer of luxury performance cars which was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. The first car to come off the assembly line with the name Aston Martin was a four cylinder coventry-Simplex engine that was attached to a the chassis of a 1908 Isota-Fraschini. At this time in March of 1915 they were producing cars at the Henniker Place in Kensington. However, with World War I the production of cars was not important, thus Martin joined the Admiralty and Bamford joined the Royal Service Corps. All their car production machinery was sold to the Sopwith Aviation Company.
After the end of War World I the company was re-founded at Abingdon Road in Kensington. They designed a new car to carry the name of Aston-Martin. Bamford left the company in 1920 and then the company used funds from Count Louis Aborowski to revitalise. Even though the Bamford was no longer with the company they still produced cars for competition in the French Grand Prix which set world speed records and endurance records at Brooklands.
In 1924, the company went bankrupt and was purchased by Lady Charnwood. The company once again failed in 1925 and closed its doors in 1926.
After the company closed its doors, a few rich investors including Lady Charnwood gained control of the company and renamed it Aston Martin Motors. Finally, in 1936, the company decided to focus on road cars instead of racing cars. World War II however, put a halt to car manufacturing and the company created aircraft components.
In 1947, the company was purchased by David Brown Limited along with Lagonda during the same year. Ford eventually purchased Aston Martin however, Ford assigned UBS AG to sell Aston Martin at auction. By the end of August 2006, Ford stated it would be willing to sell all or part of Asto Martin. On 12 March 2007 a consortium led by Prodrive chairman David Richards purchased Aston Martin for £475m/USD$848m. However, Ford will keep a stake in the company.
